Montana Memory Project

Introduction

The Montana Memory Project is an online source for digital collections relating to Montana's cultural heritage. In part, these collections document the Montana experience. Access is free and open through the Internet. Many of these items are digitized copies of historic material, some items are contemporary. All serve as a resource for education, business, pleasure, and lifelong learning.

Many Montana libraries, museums, archives, and cultural institutions add materials to this collection.  Over time, contents may include digital newspapers, maps, copies of photographs, rare books, historic documents, diaries, oral histories, audio and video clips, paintings, illustrations and art.

How do I get started?
  • Contact Sarah McHugh, Molly Kruckenberg, or Liz Babbitt.
  • Look through the Digitization Planning (ppt) slideshow.
  • Complete the required MMP Project Planning Document available through your institution’s Montana Library Directory pages. Select "Edit Path", enter your Directory password and select "Digitization".
  • The MMP Guidelines (pdf) will also help you complete the Project Planning Document.
  • Get your project approved by the MMP Executive Committee (doc).
  • Work with Michael Price to set up your collection and user information, and get added to the "msl-mmp"  Google Group listserv.
