Grants

Introduction

Montana State Library receives grant funds to use to improve library services in the state. The major source for grants is the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which administers the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), an annual grant awarded to every state based on population.

IMLS also administers the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian grant program, which has funded two Professional Education and Employment for Librarians (PEEL) scholarship projects in Montana.

The Montana State Library and the Montana Historical Society are currently partners in a Connecting to Collections Statewide Planning Grant, also funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The project goal is to assess the preservation needs of MT's cultural organizations including archives, county records offices, historical societies, libraries and museums.
