(HELENA)---As a new crop of Montana students ready themselves for graduating from high school and college, the Montana State Library and local libraries across the state now provide a free, online service to help these students prepare for their next step in life - whether it's college, college prep tests, or getting a job.

The State Library recently acquired a new database called the "Testing and Education Reference Center," which is available to Montana library patrons via their library's Web site or at http://montanalibraries.org. Montanans must have a library card and password, available at their local library, to access the site.

"This new free online service is a state of the art way for Montanans to research educational opportunities, and to prepare to apply for different career paths," said Darlene Staffeldt, Montana State Librarian. "Whether you're thinking of attending a local college or Harvard, whether you're going to be getting your BA or your MBA, this database can help you achieve your goals."

The "Testing and Education Reference Center" allows users to search and compare undergraduate and graduate schools and programs; search vocational schools, information technology programs, nursing schools and executive education programs; find scholarship information for undergraduate and graduate schools with over $2.4 billion available; and take practice tests for entrance into everything from college to the police academy. Some of the many practice tests that are featured include the SAT, ACT, GRE, GED, and the civil service entrance exam.

"Instead of having to pore through books and magazines and various Web sites, the 'Testing and Education Reference Center' makes it easy for Montanans to research the perfect opportunity, find novel ways to pay for their education, and prepare to take the entrance test of their choice - all for free," said Staffeldt. "I am delighted that the State Library is able to offer this amazing resource for our citizens to help them move forward with their lives."

Through its statewide programs, the Montana State Library empowers Montanans; enhances learning in families and communities; builds 21st Century skills; and provides opportunities for civic participation. For more information, visit http://msl.mt.gov.
