(HELENA) -- The SWIM Library Scholarship Advisory Council will meet at the Bozeman Public Library's small meeting room on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Bozeman Public Library is located at 626 East Main Street in downtown Bozeman.
The scholarship program is part of a three-year grant known as SWIM, as it consists of a formal partnership between four states - South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. The objective of the grant is to recruit and provide scholarships to educate 50 librarians and school library media specialists from throughout the region to work in rural communities. The program is funded through a competitive grant program managed by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The SWIM Library Scholarship Advisory Council is composed of twelve members representing libraries of all types, library associations, and state libraries from the four partner states.
The Advisory Council will consider applications submitted by the state scholarship committees for at-large scholarship awards. Four of the scholarships will be awarded to residents interested in receiving their School Library Media Specialist Endorsements. The remaining six scholarships will be distributed to residents who are interested in receiving their Masters degree in Library and Information Science.
In addition to awarding ten scholarships, the Advisory Council will also evaluate the progress of the SWIM project overall, with a special focus on the recruitment of scholarship applications, in order to provide direction for the next phase of the project.
Through its statewide programs, the Montana State Library empowers Montanans; enhances learning in families and communities; builds 21st Century skills; and provides opportunities for civic participation.
