LIBRARIAN’S LOG- Christie Briggs, Regional Librarian.
New Readers’ Advisor and Machine Lending Agent:
We are
pleased to announce that Claudia Bickel has joined our staff. Claudia has a BA
in English and an MA in medieval English and French literature. She has
experience working with citizens who are deaf and blind. After her training
period, she will be advising patrons whose last names begin with P-Z.
National Library Service Bi-Annual Consultation
Visit:
Vickie
Collins, Consultant, commended all staff for their accomplishments and
excellent teamwork. Specific praise went to Carolyn Meier, Circulation Manager,
for her implementation of a highly efficient random shelving system and Diane
Gunderson for her local Recording Program quality assurance committee. My
appreciation goes out to Carolyn, Diane, Martin and Sandy for an outstanding
job!
Donations & Memorials (Tax Deductible)
We wish to
acknowledge our appreciation to those who have given generously to MTBL over
the past year. Every gift we gratefully receive benefits thousands of Montana
Talking Book Library patrons and enables us to provide services not funded by
the annual library budget. Memorials or donations may be made payable to MTBL and mailed to: MT Talking Book Library, PO Box 201800,
Helena, MT 59620-1800. Memorials should include the name of the
person being honored and the name and address of the family or family member(s)
to be notified of the gift. Please consider naming MTBL as a beneficiary of a
life insurance policy or an estate planning bequest (significant tax benefits
may be possible with the assistance of an estate-planning attorney).

DIGITAL PLAYER SHIPPING BOX
Remember to
keep the box and Styrofoam in case it needs to be returned.
RECHARGING DIGITAL PLAYERS
To recharge
your player plug the player into household outlet. The player will
automatically turn on. Press the power
button off to fully recharge. It takes about two hours to recharge your
player. You cannot overcharge the
player.
DIGITAL UPDATE
·
The
cartridge does not have to be rewound.
When you finish the book, return it to its case. Make
sure to check that the book number and the case number match!
·
If
there is a fault in the cartridge, be sure to let us know by enclosing a note
or putting a rubber band around the cartridge.
·
Currently
the loan period for the digital books is 30
days. We appreciate your returning the digital books promptly so they
can be re-circulated. (Loan period for
the cassette books is still 60 days.) We
allow up to 8 digital books per patron at one time. We hope to relax these numbers in the coming
months as our digital collection continues to grow.
·
By
now, every patron who wants a digital player should have one. If you have been missed, or you originally
declined a player and are now interested, please call us. We will begin issuing
digital players to institutions and schools in early 2011.
·
New
titles will only be available on digital cartridge (or by downloading from
BARD). The only new cassettes we are
receiving are popular older titles being redone or newer titles still in
process. Montana Cassette Books will take
longer to transition.
·
Our
newsletter is available online at http://msl.mt.gov/tbl/newsletter.
We are sending large print copies to
patrons previously subscribed to cassettes.
BARD DOWNLOADABLE BOOKS
Do you have a
home computer with a high speed internet connection? If so, you might consider downloading books
from the nearly 20,000 NLS BARD digital e-book collection. Fill out the online
application at this website: https://nlsbard.loc.gov/
Besides the
high speed internet connection, requirements include an active e-mail address,
moderate
computer knowledge (including how to search the Internet and fill out online
forms), how to download, unzip, and save files, and how to transfer files from
one place to another.
Technical support is available by contacting MTBL.
