Conclusion

As you can see there is a lot of work that comes with the transition to an independent library district. It can be very challenging, but there is a sense of satisfaction in building a new district. One of the joys we mentioned is the sense of empowerment that comes with creating this district. You will learn many new things as you go through this first year and a half.

There are probably other things that need to be done as you transition to the district. It doesn't happen overnight, but as the second year anniversary approaches you will hopefully find yourself working more and more on new and improved library services. Many of the reports and duties that were mentioned in this report will become easier and more familiar to you. As you work through each of these you will become better and better at the accounting, the payroll, the paperwork, and all of the other responsibilities that come with being a new district.

Be sure to celebrate your accomplishments. Congratulations on all of your hard work and effort. Please contact Montana State Library staff if you need any assistance as you work through this process.
