Good Neighbor Day

This fall, celebrate a community-based and goodwill-building holiday: Good Neighbor Day!  Good Neighbor Day was founded in Lakeside Montana in the 1970's by Becky Mattson and her husband, Dick. Today, it's a national holiday celebrated on September 28 each year. 

Libraries are exemplary models of good neighbors- they greet everyone, encourage connection and curiosity, and provide opportunities for gathering. You can usually even borrow something, though maybe not a cup of sugar.

This Good Neighbor Day trunk is designed to help streamline ideas and efforts within Montana communities to encourage friendliness, kindness, and a sense of belonging between neighbors in our nation suffering from isolation and loneliness. 

 Use resources provided to celebrate Good Neighbor Day on September 28 in your community and promote being neighborly, one library at a time.
