A Lifelong Love of Place

Ken Rand is a photographer in Missoula who explores nature, history and travel. A love for science and to explore with a camera drew him to an M.A. in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Journalism at U of M Missoula and a B.A in Film and Photography from MSU Bozeman. He has chased wolverines and other creatures with remote cameras, keeps bees and enjoys spending time at his family home on Flathead Lake. Ken has been around his great grandfather’s photos all his life and they were an great influence in him becoming a photographer. Visit: kenrand.co [kenrand.co] for more.

K.D. Swan worked for the U.S. Forest Service from 1911-1947, for most of that time as a photographer. His images are ubiquitous in Montana and Western forest history. After his retirement he continued to photograph many places in Montana and his various travels.  Glacier Park was one of his favorite places to visit. Ken will present a Glacier Trails slideshow made in the 1960s with K.D.’s audio narration and a bit of history of Swan’s career and trips to Glacier. Swan would give his slide presentations to any group around the region that invited him, and carried a large projector screen in his station wagon. So it seems fitting to present his work to a new audience and to those that may remember him.
