Montana Geospatial Information Act Account

The Montana State Library administers the Geospatial Information Account and develops an annual budget to fulfill the priorities of the Geospatial Information Plan. These funds come from the fees charged for recording documents, at the county-level, with specific amounts allocated to different accounts and funds to support various purposes like records preservation and geospatial information management. MCA 7-4-2637

Montana GIS Coordination Strategic Plan FY23-27
The Montana GIS Coordination Strategic Plan outlines five key goals to enhance geospatial coordination within the state. These goals include improving GIS coordination within the Montana State Library, enhancing communication with geospatial stakeholders, developing policies and best practices for geospatial data, continuing to improve the collection and dissemination of land information, and creating and strengthening partnerships. The plan was developed with input from the Montana Land Information Advisory Council, the greater Montana GIS community, and emphasizes the importance of consistent, accurate, and accessible geospatial data.

Land Information Plans (historic)

In 2023, the Montana Legislature updated the Montana Land Information Act, now called the Montana Geospatial Information Act. The Annual Land Information Plans are now considered a historic record and have been replaced by the Geospatial Information Plan.
