Adventure Lab
Physical Walks
If you live in one of the communities where we have an Adventure Lab Tour: Butte, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, Missoula, or Virginia City, then think about organizing a program around taking a walk. Ask attendees to where good walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing.
Walk possibilities are endless. Here are a few suggestions, and feel free to create your own ways to complete a walk.
- Walk with the whole group to each point.
- If your group is large, encourage participants to work in small groups.
- Make it into a challenge to see who can complete the entire tour first.
- Walk the route ahead of time and plant your own scavenger hunt items at each place.
- Take the walk, then regroup and ask what people learned as they toured.
Virtual Walks
If you do not live in one of the communities where there is already an Adventure Lab established or if you are working with a group of people who are not physically able to take a walk, then use the exhibit format to take a virtual walk.
Open the Adventure lab exhibit on a large screen or TV. Read each caption and then open the historic image full-size. Then enlarge the google map and see how the same spot looks to day.
Ask participants about the changes or similarities they see. Which version of the image do they like best? Do they have memories to share about the places shown in the tour?
