Data Construction

The Digital Elevation Model or DEM is the accepted statewide elevation data product. Assembled by the U.S. Geological Survey, it is designed to provide statewide elevation data in a seamless form with consistent datums, elevation unit, and coordinate reference system.

The assembly process for this seamless data involved edge matching and mosaicking elevation data into layers. The MSDI Elevation theme steward activities include working about 15% time on education, outreach, and communication with Montana data users and other state partners.
