Cross-MSDI Relationships

The Geographic Names database relates to the following other MSDI framework themes:

• The MGNF uses the Elevation framework to determine the elevations of feature that have not been entered by hand based on topographic maps.

• When it is necessary to determine the location of a name for the MGNF, the Administrative Boundaries, Cadastral, Orthoimagery, and Structure frameworks may be consulted.

• Features in the Hydrography framework are only allowed to have names if their names are in the GNIS.

• Public or private map applications may rely on the MGNF for geographic name searches
