Equipment

The National Library Service (NLS) has designed two types of digital players for listening to NLS recorded digital books: a standard model and an advanced model. One digital player, either standard or advanced, is provided to each patron, free on loan, in order to listen to books loaned by the Montana Talking Book Library. Amplifier: For MTBL patrons with a significant hearing loss. Amplifiers require a separate application with medical certification as the sound is boosted to a level that can cause permanent hearing loss to persons with normal hearing. Please contact MTBL about the application procedure for obtaining this accessory.

Headphones: Issued to MTBL patrons who require them for reading talking books where speakers are not permitted, as in nursing homes and hospitals. The headphones come in a large and a small size.

Pillow Speaker: For individuals who are confined to a bed. The Pillow Speaker is placed under the reader's pillow and is normally heard only by the reader. May be used with any NLS player.

Breath Switch: Intended for eligible patrons who are confined to bed or have little or no dexterity for the manipulation of digital players. The Breath Switch unit is used to control the Play/Stop function of the NLS digital players (both Standard and Advanced). This unit controls no other functions.
